The curtain was realOpona byla skutečná
Before it was a border, an iron curtain was a piece of theatre equipment: a fire-safety curtain, originally made of metal, lowered between the stage and the audience to stop a fire spreading. Churchill did not invent the phrase. He gave a known word a new job.
In nineteenth-century theatres, lit by gas, a massive iron curtain was dropped to seal off the stage when a fire broke out. The timeline below follows the phrase from there to Fulton.
Churchill to slovní spojení nevymyslel.
Časová osa níže sleduje cestu tohoto spojení až do Fultonu.
You can raise this curtain with one click. For more than forty years, the people of Central and Eastern Europe could not.Tuto oponu zvednete jedním kliknutím. Lidé ve střední a východní Evropě to přes čtyřicet let nemohli.
